Global Warming: A Hot Topic

Global Warming is a hot topic in today's society, but what is Global Warming? Well, by the name, it is pretty self-explanatory. Global warming is the temperature rise of the entire Earth's atmosphere. This temperature rise can lead to catastrophic consequences. Global warming can cause more powerful and deadly hurricanes, droughts and wildfires, intense rainfall, health issues in humans, ecosystem disruptions, sea level rise and more.

The Cause

What is the causes of global warming and all of these lovely issues that come with it? Scientists say that the main cause is the greenhouse effect, which is causing radiating heat from space to be trapped into our atmosphere, which causes the global temperature of Earth to raise, but why? There are a couple gases that contribute to global warming, but the most known and powerful is carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon dioxide goes into the atmosphere and traps infrared radiation from escaping, which causes the heat increase. How does all of this carbon dioxide get released and who is causing all of this? We are causing it. Carbon dioxide is released from fossil fuels in cars, factories, electricity production and more. Methane (another contributor to global warming) is also released into the atmosphere to trap infrared radiation. Methane can come from landfills and digestive systems of grazing animals. Nitrous oxide (N2O or also known as "laughing gas") is yet another contributor, and is mostly produced into the atmosphere by fertilizers. Now, if you are a visual learner, here is a video you can watch to help you better understand how global warming works.
